It's my favorite way to lighten hair — it asks less maintenance of you than foils and never leaves that hard regrowth line at the parting
How I work
We map it first
I look at your hair's history — old color, past lightening, condition — and we agree on what's realistic in one visit. Photos of your hair from past years help more than anything
Painting
Freehand, section by section, adjusting saturation to where your hair naturally catches light. This is the slow part, and it should be
Toning and finish
The tone is where balayage becomes yours — warmer, cooler, deeper — and I finish so you see how it moves, not just how it sits
The honest maintenance talk
Before you leave, I tell you what this color needs from you at home and when it's actually worth coming back — not a fixed schedule invented to fill my calendar

Questions I hear about balayage
Will balayage damage my hair?
Any lightening is chemistry, so I don't pretend it's nothing — but hand-painting lets me control saturation strand by strand, and I stop where your hair's condition says stop. If your hair isn't ready for the full plan, I'll say so and we'll stage it
How often will I need to refresh it?
That's the point of balayage: the grow-out is designed to look intentional, so there's no panic date. When your hair tells you it's time — usually a tone refresh before a full repaint — you come back. I'll give you an honest rhythm at consultation
What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
Highlights are foiled from close to the root in a set pattern; balayage is painted freehand with a softer transition. Foils lift more and read brighter; balayage reads more like the sun did it. Plenty of heads want both — that conversation is what consultations are for
Does balayage work on dark hair?
Yes — some of my favorite transformations start from very dark hair. What I won't do is promise ash blonde over black in one afternoon. Dark bases usually mean stages, and I'd rather tell you that before we start than surprise you after
